Farm... Farm.... oh! Looked like someone had an apple orchard! Wait... That wasn't what he was supposed to be paying attention for. Those apples looked so good though... Nice, ripe, and bright green. Perfect to make caramel apples with. Dangit! Why was his mind always on food? He was supposed to be keeping his eyes out for the Gifters that the radar that hinted at being near. Only three licenses... At least he wouldn't have to put up with a large group of people, and then he'd be able to go raid the orchard, so long as the farmer that owned it gave him permission.
Wait! there it was. Movement in the the orchard. Maybe he had been looking in the right place for once after all. Maybe they had come there in thought that it would provide an easy meal, since a poor farmer couldn't focus on every piece of his land all at once. "They're here~" the young male scientist called out with a smile. "I think I've picked up three Gifters in the area. Three, or maybe just one or two with some other animals running around with them. Either way! There's at least one of them running around here."
Now just to wait on three trainers to come by so he could get his hands on those yummy apples himself.

Ugh. Ugh ugh ugh. Why did Malthus have to make him do his dirty work for him? Not that the area was unpleasant -- the weather was quite nice, actually -- or that the Lollio didn't like to travel. No, it wasn't any of that. He just didn't want to be caught up in whatever business Malthus was getting himself into. There was just something... seedy about that man, and though Yamiejiputo didn't know what it was, he had sworn to himself to keep an eye out for his interests. Some piece of work he had gotten himself involved with... Oh well. It was pointless to cry over past mistakes. " One Gifter License, if you please," the brown, short haired Lollio asked the scientist, looking about the orchard almost expectantly.

Well, fall was really close, wasn't it? This month was probably going to be the last month for fruits and vegetables to grow, taken the weather would stay warm and sunny. Kimberlyn passed by the orchard, and the smell of ripe, juicy apples filled her nostrils. Mm, the smell was very tempting, but as a proud hunter, the Viikuan knew better but to steal from a farmer's hard work. Stealing was not acceptable for a Viikuan of the wild. Besides, she wasn't here for the apples, nor for the other aliments that were growing on this orchard. She was here because there had been news about a scientist spotting some Gifters. It was the sixth of the month today, and Kim had been told Gifters came out of their habitats by the fifth of every month. Hopefully the information the scientist had gotten weren't false.
She spotted a scientist by the orchard, and she figured this was most likely the man who had claimed to have found signals of Gifters in this area. Oh, hopefully he was right! This was her first adventure outside the barn from her residential habitat; she didn't want her errand to end in failure. Roderick had trusted her with exploring Ladelle to gather information on more creatures. She had heard about the Gifters, so she figured she would give it a try...
Kim stopped beside the brown Lollio, waiting for her turn to come. She had to ask for a License to search for a Gifter, right? Oh, she was so unused to this... but if she followed the guidelines, it would be easy, right? As long as one follows the rules, one should be able to make it through the event without making any mistakes (or very few, at least.) She nodded a greeting to the Lollio as she stepped beside him once he had asked for his License. "Hello, sir," she greeted nervously. "Could I also ask for a License, please?"
This was exciting... but so unnerving at the same time.

Ah...what did she need to find again? A Gifter? The nameless Silrynn landed lightly in front of the scientists. "One license, if you will," she said in her light, bird-like voice. A Lolli and a Viikuan were already there. She hoped she was on time...

"Yes. Yes. One for each of you coming right up!" he chattered rather quickly, going inside of his tent and shuffling around inside for a few moments before he found them and brought them back to the awaiting creatures. "I'd be careful out there. These ones don't seem to be scared of man kind if they're willing to get so close to the city, so I wouldn't doubt it if they didn't fear the lot of you as well.
Yay~ He could finally go see if the farmer would let him get some apples! Oh wait.. Apples. Yes. He turned back to the group once again and spoke, "The apples seem rather tempting. Maybe some of those would help you find what you want?"

Hm. As tempting as those apples might be to everyone, Yamiejiputo wasn't about to steal from some farmer's crop just to get a Gifter to join him. Perhaps Malthus would, but Yami had standards! And he wouldn't break them for anyone, not even Malthus. Taking the license and tucking it behind his ear for safekeeping, the brown Lollio bowed to the Viikuan and Silrynn that were about to accompany him on this miniature quest.
"Good day to you both, miladies," he said respectfully, trying to get off on a good start with them. "Obviously you are both here in order to locate a Gifter as well... I've never searched for such a creature before. Would either of you know how to go about looking for one?" He supposed it wouldn't be any different from looking for any other creature, but then what did he know about creature hunting in general?

The sudden arrival of the Silrynn had frightened Kimberlyn out of her pelt. Gah! A dragon popping up out of nowhere. She really wasn't used to the outside world and to the presence of species different from hers. In fact, this was the first time she had seen a Silrynn. Goodness, this was going to be hectic...
She blinked when she saw the license in front of her nose. Oh! Yes, she needed this to search for a Gifter. She watched as the Lollio hid behind his ear, probably to make sure he wouldn't lose it. Hmm... Where should she put this license? While Roderick had a satchel with him, she did not, and so she had nothing to put the little paper in. What to do, what to do?
It was while looking for that she noticed her tails. The tips would be sharp enough to rip through the paper, and it would probably be able to stick to the blade. While Kim was reluctant to damage the license, what other choice did she have? She couldn't just hold it in her mouth the whole time...
Gingerly, the female Viikuan slipped the license through the tip of her tail-blade, making sure not to tear apart the wording that was printed on the paper. While she didn't want to damage it, she didn't want to lose it either, and she figured damaging was better than losing.
She twisted her body around awkwardly when she heard Yami speak. Oh... oh, right, she wasn't alone. Gah, had she held them back? "Oh... I'm sorry, I was... trying... to find a place to put this license..." She uncoiled her body and turned to face the Lollio, nodding the Silvynn who had just arrived. "Ah, yes, I'm looking for a Gifter as well. My name's Kimberlyn, but my comrades call me Kim." The first thing her hunting group had taught her was that knowing your partners' names was essential for effective teamwork. "I hope we can all get along." She shuffled her forepaws nervously, finding it hard to communicate with species that weren't her own. She didn't have any against humans or Lollies or Silrynns, it was just unusual for her. Kim knew she would get the hang of it soon enough, however.
Ah, she had wandered off again. Gifters. Right... and that scientist had mentioned how the apples from the farm could perhaps help them in the hunt. She had had no time to grown the moment he had proposed the idea, for she had been busy trying to find a good hiding place for her license, but she wasn't about to steal anything from anyone just to find a wild pet. "I don't know how to search for wild pets, not really..." She knew how to track down other Viikuans, since they all had a distinctive scent; but what about Gifters? Surely they had scents too, right...? "Personally, I would try to scent them... everyone has a scent, right? Our sense of smell is developed enough to smell things from miles away." She didn't know how plausible her idea sounded, so she didn't say any more. Instead, she turned to the Silrynn. "What do you think?" she asked, looking from the Silrynn to the Lollio and back again.

"Thank you," the Silrynn said, taking the license. She did not really know how she would carry it around all the time. She supposed that she would need her mouth to communicate with the others, so for the time being she just held it in her claws. The dragon turned around to face the Lollio and Viikuan. Ah...Viikuan...doesn't Thunder have a bunch of them back home? They seem to really like her... And then there's that Hiroshi fellow...
"This is my first time hunting for a wild creature too," she said, facing the Lollio. "I would not really know what to do, except perhaps to be kind to them. My trainer has tamed a Gifter before, and she said she was gentle in approaching it and used some meat as bait. I think Gifters are omnivores, but some kinds prefer meat over veggies or veggies over meat... We'll just have to guess on that, but yes, I think tracking them by scent would be a good idea." She nodded at Kim. "Oh yes...I don't have a name. It's rather strange..."

So neither of them had been on one of these hunts before. That was all right... then they could all figure this out together. Personally, Yami thought that trying to track the Gifters by scent was a good idea, though he had no idea what sort of scent a Gifter had. Then again, if he caught the smell of something he had never smelled before, that probably meant that he had found something interesting, no? He nodded his agreement to the others.
"Yes, that sounds like the best way to begin, Miss Kim and Miss... Namonaki, may I call you?" Yami couldn't function without a name to call someone, and so he came up with one of the words he knew meant 'nameless'. "Shall we venture forth, then?" Taking a sniff at the air, he tried to catch anything unusual, but all he could sense was the scent of the ripe apples on the trees.

Oh, so all three of them were new to this business? Kim supposed it would work better this way. She'd already suffered from those older hunters who thought they knew everything about something because they had gone through the experience before. Those kind of people infuriated her, Viikuan or not. While going through the same experience over and over gives you more knowledge about the situation, you can't exactly expect one to know everything. "I bet it'll be interesting to search for the Gifters... the more things we get to see, the more experience we get. I guess it's a good thing that we're all new to this, too."
Ah, so her idea sounded like a good one? She was in the same boat as Yami's; she had no idea what a Gifter smelled like, but since she was used to tracking animals, she figured they'd just have to stalk the first strange scent they would catch. And if it didn't work... well... They'll see if it gets there. She figured they'd have to go with the Silrynn's idea of using food as bait. Perhaps Gifters were prone to food?
Kim couldn't help but blink when the Silrynn said she didn't have a name. "You don't have a name?" How strange... a creature without a name? She doubted this was a custom from the Silrynn's species. "Well... maybe you'll get to discover a name during our search?" Kim had always had a name... the thought of how one could live around the world without a name seemed odd to her, but then again, a name is but a bunch of letters stuck together, right? But the Lollio seemed to have come up with a name for the time being.
And he'd come up with a title for her! Upon being called a 'miss,' Kim fiddled around. "A-ah, don't call me 'miss'... Just Kim is fine." She felt old now. But her age wasn't the main focus of this search, now, was it? Kim, too, raised her muzzle towards the sky and opened her mouth to smell the air. Since they were near the farm, the strong scent of apples was literally covering the other scents. Hmr. "I can only smell the apples from the farm... what about you two?"

Shelter and food were the two main things that a creature needed to survive. The thing about this orchard was that it seemed to do well at giving the Gifters both of these. There were plenty of apples to live off of for a while, and the scent of them made it not the easiest thing in the world to track them. There were other things that could give them away, such as paw and hoof prints, markings made on the trees, and any sound that they happened to make. Off in the distance a twig snapped, and apparently startled some type of large animal, for there was a lot of rustling through the brush. Could have been a Gifter, could have been something else. Whatever it was, it knew it wasn't alone.

"Namonaki? I suppose you could call me that..." "Namonaki" turned and gazed at the apple orchard for a few seconds. "Ah, I'm afraid our sense of smell isn't that sharp, being a dragon and all. But..." She heard a quiet rustle in the orchard. Curious, she squinted her eyes and tilted her head. "Did...did any of you hear something just now?" She took some wary steps forward. Could it be a Gifter, already?

Yami's head turned sharply as he heard the far-off noise, large ears pricked. "I definitely heard something... Perhaps we should go and investigate? It just may be one of the creatures we are looking for." Almost hesitantly, as if not really wanting to be the first, the Lollio stepped forward into the orchard. He hoped that whomever it belonged to wouldn't be upset that they were trespassing on his property... Though perhaps if they showed their licenses, it would be all right? It might even be good for the farmer -- it would bring publicity to his land, having Gifters on it.
"So, ah... how did you two come to be here? Or rather, why are you searching for Gifters?" he asked, trying to keep a little conversation going. The noise had died, and so he figured it would be best to look for tracks or rubbings instead of relying on hearing.

It looked like none of them could smell anything apart from the strong scent of apples coming from the orchard. Well, too bad. Kim had put her own idea to find the Gifters, and it had failed, but there was no need to despair, for surely there would be another way around to finding those Gifters.
She, too, heard a far-away noise, and her ears stood erect atop her head. Her bright golden eyes scanned the orchard, but she saw nothing of any particular interest. Had it been her imagination? Had she just stepped on something without noticing it? But then the other two had also heard the noise, and the Lollio was particularly eager to find out what it was. "O-oh... yes, I did hear it too," Kim finally replied to her two companions as she scrambled after Yami.
Kim blinked. Oh. Why she had come here? Why had she come here? ... Ah... Yes, why she had come to search for a Gifter... She was so... so distant. "Oh, ah... uh..." She tilted her head to the side. "Well, the human that owns the barn I live in asked if someone wanted to go outside to search for a Gifter... I'm facing some... some issues at home right now, so I figured this would be my chance to see the world for itself." Was this why she seemed to be so distant, and even a bit lost? "What about you two...?" she asked as she turned to the Lollio, then to the Silrynn and back again. Thinking about it... had the Lollio even told her and Namonaki (the name she would use for the Silrynn for the time being) his name? If he had, she hadn't heard it... "Oh.. excuse me, what's your--"
But then her sentence was cut short when she clumsily tripped over some tangled vines. Kim squealed as she toppled over, landing onto her chest with her hackles hanging awkwardly in the air, her tail-blades scrapping the ground. She grumbled some incomprehensible words as she got back onto her paws. She ruffled her fur to spread the dirt away. "Sorry, I wasn't paying attention to where I was going," she apologized with a sheepish grin. Talk about awkward.
But it was when she was scrambling back onto her paws that she noticed prints engraved in the dirt. Had wild animals been here? Would they be able to track a Gifter from pawprints? But then, what kind of pawprints did a Gifter have? "Hey, since smelling didn't work... do you two think we could find the Gifters with prints?" Kim rubbed a dark grey paw over a few prints. "I don't really know what kind of pawprints Gifters have, but..." Maybe the noise from earlier had been caused by a Gifter? But how could they ever be sure?

"Namonaki" followed shortly behind the Viikuan and the Lollio. She kept her attention on the surroundings, watching carefully for any signs of Gifters. "We already have a Gifter back at home," she decided to add. "Though...I still don't have too much knowledge of them. At least I know what one looks like. I suppose Thunder wanted another one, so she sent me here."
Then, Kim tripped. Namonaki's eyes widened and she looked over the Viikuan to see if she was alright. Apparently she was fine, as she got up by herself. "I could try to spot the Gifters," Namonaki offered. "My eyesight is pretty good." She looked around at the orchard expectantly.
