Syke who was not Syke followed Malthus's actions with his eyes, putting his hands on his hips. The duck on his shoulder shivered, feather wriggling, before flying to the ground and settling there instead. "Why clean it up, it's not your store... It's fun watching them do it, y'know? But you don't look like the type to enjoy that kind of stuff anyway, huh..." Syke leaned his head to one side, dragging a small piece of paper debris along the tiles of the floor, making a loud 'chccchhhhhh' sound just to irk some of the other people who were trying their best to ignore this weird phenomenon.
"Sooo then. What purpose is Syke to you anyway? Yeah, I've heard about you. Malthes... or... something like that. Hum... I have my own plans with him sooo..."

"Malthus Rolland DeMarquoix, at your service," Malthus corrected him with a flourish, turning back to 'Syke' before paying the man at the counter for the bandages and exiting the pharmacy. Slipping a bandage out of the package, Malthus flicked it through his fingers in boredom, leaning against the wall between the pharmacy and some shoe store. Never did understand how they decided what stores went where...
"What purpose is the boy to me? Why... does he need a purpose?" He looked into the boy's eyes, trying to determine what sort of a character was beyond them. "He's quite the entertaining friend, if you so desire a purpose of him for me." And it was true; Malthus did think of the boy as a friend already. He was different from both Yamiejiputo and Yami Kodai, which was a refreshing change. "You have your own plans with him, hmm? I do hope they don't involve his demise; that would certainly be a shame."

Syke smiled crookedly, eyes pocketed in shadow and hunched his shoulders as if a great weight had been thrown upon them. Following the other out, and watching the other flick a bandaid through his hands expertly, the not-Syke replied," Everyone has a purpose, Malthus." He said this with joyous emphasis, folding his arms but still slouching. It was interesting to see how the violet-haired man favored this little, misfortunate boy.
"Demise? That's still to see," the boy laughed but inside the specter could feel the real child wiggling uncomfortably in his unconsciousness. That made it all the more enjoyable really.

Everyone has a purpose... Well, perhaps that was true. Still, with the way Malthus had been raised... But that was neither here nor there. The fact of the matter was that someone was possessing his dear boy, and he needed to think of a way to remedy that. It certainly wasn't going to be easy, however. This personality seemed to be a lot like YK in the sense that he had a strong will and wouldn't easily be influenced by others.
"Well, I do hope you reconsider. The boy is a rather sweet and innocent soul, and the world could benefit from having more minds like his around. Certainly, everyone dies at one point or another, but it would be a pity for him to go before his time, hmm?" Malthus continued flicking the bandage between his fingers with disinterest, waiting for the opportunity to give it to Syke for his finger. "If you'd kindly give the boy back his body, I would be grateful. We were about to go on a shopping expedition, if you will."

"What the worlds needs is... an escape." The boy smiled, his neck popping audibly as it turned up sideways, unnaturally. Just then his head hung, shoulders slumping all the way down now, in fact his whole upper body leaning over tiredly.
Suddenly Syke popped back and looked around, rubbing his eyes all sleepy-like. "Wha-What...?" The boy glanced around and spotted Malthus, moving closer and just barely avoiding the path of a large group of boisterous teenagers. "Hay Malthus... How'd we get out here...?"
Arkadios, who had been at Malthus's feet all the while, seemingly noticed the abrupt change in his partner and thus waddled back over. He gave a small purring 'quack' and Syke peered down. "Oh! Arkie!" He nearly squealed happily and stooped, picking up the duck and placing him back on Arkie's perch, his shoulder.

"How we got here matters not, my boy," replied Malthus, inwardly relieved that whomever had been toying with Syke's mind was gone. "What matters is that we are here." He peeled off the backing of the band-aid (putting the crumpled plastic in his pocket), took the boy's hand, and affixed the bandage on Syke's injured finger. Perhaps it was a bit patronizing, but with the way Syke's mind worked, Malthus wasn't entirely convinced that he could do it on his own. That done, he straightened up and gazed out over the mall.
"Well, where shall we go from here? As they say, the world is our oyster. We have countless opportunities before us... It's all up to you, dear boy."

Once having the bandage put on, the boy jumped happily. "Thank you Malthuuuus!" And he really was, since he probably wouldn't have known how to put it on the right way anyway. Everything in life seemed to elude him. He then turned and looked around at the given choices, one direction after the other with shops lining each wall. Some had dressed dolls posed behind glass, others with big cardboard cutouts of some famous type or another, some with large shelves of books.
Tapping at his chin now, wound forgotten, he turned to Malthus and mused. "Wow, the world is an oyster? I always thought it was a planet." He had a baffled look scrunching his face, a side-effect of him thinking too hard for his own good. Something caught his eye, glinting in a window. Something shiny? Yup! Syke pointed in the direction again. "What's that?" Jewelry store, of which he'd never been to in his life, let alone a 'Maul'.

Malthus couldn't help but laugh at Syke's naïveté. Not just a chuckle, as he was prone to doing, but an honest laugh. "It's an expression, dear boy... They don't mean that the Earth is literally an oyster. It means that we have all the opportunities we could wish for lying ahead of us." Calming down, he watched as Syke pointed to a store and asked what it was. "That, Syke, is a jewelry store. ...A very high-class one, at that." He strode a little closer to the store and studied its contents. "I wouldn't be surprised if the cheapest items in there were no less than 500 Skor." A smile crept across Malthus's face. "Shall we go in?"
