The boy didn't know what an Ootle was? He must be new here, just like he himself once had been. "An Ootle, my dear boy, is a large turtle-like creature that has the ability to take on the appearance of whatever it so desires. For instance, one of the more common varieties has taken on the appearance of red grapes, and so it is called the Grape Ootle. Now, as for this one... I simply haven't a clue as to what it's copying." He turned curiously to Syke. "At any rate, I wouldn't suggest eating it, as whatever it's trying to assume the appearance of doesn't look to be edible... Are you hungry, Syke?" He couldn't help but notice that the boy looked somewhat thin. Hm... Perhaps he could get something even grander than one of those Lumins for his collection. Still holding the opened knife, he added, "I could give you something to eat, but it all comes down to what sort of a person you are..."

He looked up and blinked. "Hungry? I'm not-" Growwwwwllll... "Err...." The boy laughed nervously as his little lie was foiled by a traitorous stomach. He rubbed at the back of his head nervously, ruffling the strawberry blond hair that was tinted with both a rich shade of crimson and black. The boy absently brushed some more dirt from his dark jacket, wondering why in the world Malthus would want to feed someone like him who he'd just met. Maybe he was a nice guy?
"Maybe a tad bit..." he admitted that much, still curiously watching the blade in the other's hands. Arkee too, was watching but with a bit more discomfort, purring in his throat and sinking his little beak into some neck feathers.

Malthus chuckled as Syke's stomach betrayed his hunger. "Well, there we have it. Now, as I said, it depends on what sort of person you are... Will you eat whatever is offered to you? Or do you have a select palate? For there is only one thing that I can offer, really... and that is what I've brought in order to try to tame one of the legendary Lumins..." Without any sort of forethought or pain, Malthus took the silver knife and drew a thin line down his left palm, causing a small red mark to blossom forth. "It is rumored that an offering of one's blood is enough to tame such a beast," he explained, uninterestedly watching his blood run into his shirt cuff. "Now, my question to you is... do you fare on such a diet? Or does it repulse you?"

Crimson liquid dripping slowly to the ground in precious little droplets. Syjke gulped, not wanting to seem like any sort of monster but well... he hadn't eaten in so long, as his regular food supplements had all been left back on his own planet... In the back of his mind, the boy was picturing himself as some sort of multi-eyed alien crawling from a silver platform of a spaceship.
"I... you want to... feed.. me... ?" he blinked pathetically, feeling his mouth watering. "I-I couldn't.... There's a catch though, right? Everything has a catch..." Syke pointed out whimperingly, still staring at the blood flowering out from the wound. Perhaps just a little bit...

Ah, the catch. "Smart boy... It's not much of a catch, really. My blood just acts as a marker so that I know what belongs to me. You're still free to come and go as you like... It's more of a collar, in a sense. A pretty piece of jewelry. Of course, you're also free to refuse... Though it's not as if I'm taking your freedom in any sense." He continued to dully watch the red liquid travel down his sleeve, staining the already dark fabric. "It's all up to you..."

Well, he didn't see any harm in that, and while the character seemed a little dubious, Syke rather enjoyed Malthus's company. And his stomach was on the verge of collapsing, so any little sustenance would do, if even just help him for a few more hours. He sighed, resigned to knowing the fact that no matter how much he ate, his stomach would always be a little hollow without the blood of a true Dweller.
He nodded acceptance. "Alright, that doesn't sound too bad." In fact, having a friend who owned a large estate didn't sound too bad at all. Perhaps the strange being that called him and visited him in his dreams would allow him to room there for a night or two. "I just... I uhm..." he murmured nervously, taking Malthus's palm and eyeing it almost greedily. Well, no shame now. It was do or die here in a smelly, old cave. He took the palm gingerly in his own hands, twisting it this way and that first before pressing his tongue against the smooth flesh, the silky iron-taste. He began to drink, just enough to last him for another hour or so...

It was only to be expected that, by now, the oddly colored Ootle had taken it's leave without waiting up for either of the human-like people (and the duck). It didn't so much appreciate being tripped over like it was a rock. It looked like a rock, but didn't want to be treated like one! How awful it was of them, to ignore it when it might have been hurt! It had come out unscathed, due to it's shell, but that wasn't the point. The poor Ootles were always kicked around, and this particular one was probably bitter about that.
It had left the men behind, even before the one of them started feeding off the other. If it had been there, it wasn't too clear as to how it would have reacted. It might have been fascinated, it might have been disgusted. If they held any hope of keeping track of the creature, it was best to think that they should get a move on. Having been here already, before even Malthus had showed it, there was a pretty good chance that the creature knew this cave fairly well. Better then them, at least. Luck was in their favor. Ootles naturally didn't move very fast, so it's crawling pace hadn't carried it out of sight. It looked far because of the darkness of the cave, but it wasn't. And the strange green glow around it gave it dead away as it marched deeper, deeper, down.

"Please, do not worry about overindulging yourself," Malthus nearly purred, apparently not minding at all the way things were going currently. He did notice, however, that the Ootle had begun to take its leave, crawling slowly into the depths of the cave. That reminded him... He had come here for a reason, and he wasn't about to go home until he had found what he was searching for. "Do you see that, dear Syke? That Ootle with the unusual glow is leaving us. What say we follow it and see where it leads us, hmm? It may even bring us to a grand treasure... But of course it's up to you. I wouldn't want to drag you down in my endeavors if you'd rather stay out of them. Though, what sort of fellow wouldn't want to partake in a bit of adventuring?"

Satisfied with only a few sips, Syke ran his sleeve over his mouth politely and looked up. Well, what was done was done.
Hearing the other's comment, the Chaos boy looked up and around Malthus to see the little rock creature making off as fast as the poor thing could. Upon his shoulder, the duck shifted, trying to keep balance and let out a little 'quack', eyeing Malthus instead of the glowing rock.
"Ah... Sure, I'd like to come with you... Grand treasure?" he blinked, wondering what sort of precious things would lie deep within a foreboding cave tunnel.

It was best that the two men get a move on then. The Ootle still wasn't about to wait for them, as they had proven that they were fine and dandy with ignoring it. Thus, it had lost interest in them just as quickly. Or had it? Perhaps it was testing them. That could have very well been true. If anything, it would have probably in their best interest to follow regardless if they were interested in it or not. In this particular cave, getting lost wasn't a difficult feat and the hard shelled creature must have known it's way around far better then they did. Secrets...It had those too...

"Not all treasure is gold and silver, my dear boy, so do bear that in mind," Malthus told Syke as he followed after the glowing Ootle. "No, I seek more valuable things than simple stones, pretty though they may be. Do you wish to know what I hunt for?" He leaned in close to the boy, as if about to divulge a secret.
"Creatures, my boy. Rare and elusive creatures are what I seek. The rarer, the better, up until the point where they are one-of-a-kind. Those are the best of all... But I'm sure that's painfully obvious." The man looked at the glowing Ootle and smiled. "Our little friend here is such a creature, I do believe, and I should like the chance to... persuade him ...or her... to join my collection. A dark and dank cave must be a lonely place, no?" This last bit was said a little louder, as if to catch the ears of the Ootle. Such a strange man... speaking to creatures as if they could understand him.

The boy blinked and held Malthus's words closely to memory, though he wondered why Malthus himself was so caught up in collecting such rare and precious creatures. He didn't seem to want them as friends.. no... something else. But he couldn't pinpoint it so instead, Syke followed after with his much gloomier friend after the strange glowing rock creature that was slowly leaving their sight due to their little exchange. "Hmm... I hope we don't meet anything... too dangerous... even if it IS rare. I really, really don't like the idea of death..." he murmured, almost to himself and patted the duck absently on the head, getting a soft nuzzle from the bird against his cheek. Arkadios was still having a time trying to hang onto his comrade's shoulder as his feet weren't meant for gripping, not one bit.
After a few moments of walking, following after the dark figure before him, the boy finally got the courage to ask, his crimson eyes shining oddly in the dark. "Ah... Malthus.... Mmm... Why do you want these.. er.. rare creatures...?"
