Stretching lazily, the dark-purple-and-blue clad figure strolled slowly off the boat he had managed to charter to the Isle of Konnin. His light amethyst eyes scanned the new terrain carefully, their gaze almost seeming to peer into every bush and rocky outcropping. It had taken a good deal of time to finally get to this island... and he would make the most out of his time here.
"Now... to finally begin... my collection," he smirked to himself, walking off towards what appeared to be the entrance to a small cavern. The collection... That was his purpose here. To find one of the rare and legendary beasts called Lumin in order to make it his own.

As expected, the cavern was dank, dark, and damp, though the man paid no heed to this. His mind was on the prize that was hopefully waiting for him within these stone walls. He had come to this cave first thinking that, since the Lumin were said to be related to or were demons, they would prefer staying in areas that reminded them of the underworld. Then again, there wasn't a large supply of food in a cave, so perhaps they only slept in them? Well, he'd find out soon enough. The muck at the bottom of the cavern began to dull the man's brightly shined shoes, but again he didn't seem to care. One would think that if he was so set on chasing something through such conditions that he would dress accordingly, but apparently not. Must be an eccentric, this one...

Further and further into the darkness he pushed, aided by the frail light of the flashlight he had brought just for these circumstances. The cavern became larger the deeper he went, and now a vast ceiling stretched overhead as the ground began to burst into thousands of fractured stalagmites. Being neither a caver nor a Lumin expert, the man tried not to excite himself upon seeing small gashes in the rock or slightly smoother areas of ground. They could have been caused by the creature he sought... or they could just be natural coincidences. Either way, he was beginning to grow tired from his forced pace, and so, seeing a nicely-sized, fairly flat rock, seated himself for a small break.
"Dear me... I do wonder how far I've gotten... Certainly these tunnels must travel across the entire island, and I've no wish to become lost. But ah, the sacrifices one must make in the pursuit of passion!" He chuckled to himself, toying around with a small silver knife he had brought out of his coat pocket.

It was a fancy little affair, that knife. The hilt was etched with all manner of fancy swirls and lines, making it look like a calligrapher's practice sheet, while the blade itself was polished to a bright shine, glimmering even in the darkness of the cave. Twirling the instrument carefully in his fingers, the man looked down at it almost lovingly.
"You and I... We've been through much together, and will go through much more..."
Perhaps eccentric wasn't the right word. Insane seemed to fit much better. A lone man, wearing dark clothing on a tropical isle, trudging around in a cave in what could be considered Sunday's best, speaking to a knife... Anything watching would certainly have to agree that he was not in his right mind.

But maybe, maybe it liked that fact. Whatever was watching, that is. More then one thing even, but let us tackle it all one at a time. Just take into consideration that maybe insanity was a respectable quality to some or interesting, either way. Didn't most like interesting things? And no one ever said that this world was a pratical one. It made very little sense at all, indeed.
What the impratical man had failed to notice was that he wasn't alone. One of those rocks sitting nearby his own had quite an unusually dark coloration, even in the darkness like this. It was almost black. Perhaps it was meant to have been black, only an illusion was cast because of something else that very much set it apart. Lime green flecks of gasous light began to emit off the surface, dancing unnaturally through the air in irts vicinty. It wouldn't stray too far from it's host... But just what was this?

Eventually the man caught the dancing green specks out of the corner of his eye and slipped the blade back into his pocket. At first he simply watched the lights curiously, as if trying to determine if they were real or simply figments of his imagination. After deciding that they were actually there, the man shifted himself so that his body was turned towards them and began to address them instead of the blade.
"Well, well... What do we have here? Some tiny sprites of some sort? Or something else entirely? ...Ah, but do forgive my poor manners and let me introduce myself. I am Malthus Rolland DeMarquoix, owner of Mind's Eye Estate. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance," he grinned, inclining his head in greeting.

There was no response to Malthus at first. The peculier lights just continued on their merry little way, floating to and fro in the air around that black so-called rock. A few moments had passed after his full introduction of himself, when the rock finally shifted in it's place just slightly. Large, green...somethings had appeared. What were they, stones embedded into the rock? No. When they started to come and go, like something blinked a few times, before staying visable, much like a stare, that was a pretty dead give away that they were eyes. The head attatched to those eyes poked out as well, a sort of rounded box shaped head and a decently long neck, long enough to peer up at the man past the rock he was sitting on.
Not long after the creature's observation, it began to waddle slowly out of it's hiding place. What was THIS!?! A rare type of Ootle, it seemed! Now...just what was it doing here?

Hm? Now this was interesting and unexpected. The small floating lights appeared to be emanating from the smooth round shell of an Ootle, and if his memory served him correctly, no known Ootle species performed this phenomenon... In other words, he had just stumbled upon a rarity, a lovely beginning for his collection. It may not have been a Lumin, but it was just as precious.
"Ah, so you finally reveal yourself," remarked Malthus, watching the creature shamble about. "My my, what a beautiful Ootle you are. And quite a match for your settings as well; I didn't even see you there." His thoughts turned to the abilities of the turtle-like creatures and how they were rumored to copy the appearance of other objects. He had never seen an Ootle quite like this, which begged the question... what exactly was it copying?

"Oh for Heaven's.... oh for heck's... oh.... forget it..." The boy simply shook his head and relentingly gave himself up to fate. And yes, he was lost again in another part of this strange world.
At least he had company though. There was a fluffy white duck... yes, a duck perched awkwardly upon his shoulder, fussing with it's down and not helping the situation any. Good 'ol Arkadios, useless as ever.
"You'd think the powers above would just let me be for one day," the boy squinted into the darkness ahead. He was a Chaos! He should be able to see in the dark! But alas, he wasn't all that good at it either.
The boy, named Syke, trudged along through this strange cavern, his black jacket already stained with specks of dust and dirt, his strangely colored blond hair dark in the shadows. He'd gone in search of food, since there were most definitely no sources of his true staple here and as far as his searches were going, there wasn't even a nice, healthy mushroom or anything vile to munch on a stave off the encroaching hunger rumbling restlessly in his belly. No signs of much life here either, leaving him as to wonder why this place seemed so empty.
He sighed and gave the little duck a pat, crawling carefully over a large boulder blocking the path. No, he wouldn't eat his duck. That was even beyond comprehension. It'd be like eating his own friend, which was in fact, the case. Another sigh. "I wonder if we'll find anything around here, Arkee..."
But what was that up ahead....? Did he hear movement?

Before Malthus could ponder more on the Ootle, he heard a nearby voice pierce through the blackness. Oh? Someone else was here? Or rather two people, as the first had apparently addressed a companion of some sort. Curious, the man again shifted his position so that he was facing the direction the voice had come from and shone his flashlight in that direction. He didn't see anyone, however... perhaps they were farther off than he had thought. Regardless, he called out in greeting.
"Well, good day to you, out there! Or would it be night? Are there such things in the middle of a cave? Haha... Come, come, sit awhile and rest yourself. Surely you must be tired to have traveled this far in." He shuffled over on the rock, even though the other traveler(s) had not answered.

Syke jumped slightly from the voice. "H-Hello?" he called out tentatively, sliding along the opposite rock wall from the figure he was slowly approaching. A flash of light in his eyes.
His crimson pupils constricting from the light aimed at him, Syke held a hand up to shiled his eyes and crawled closer, hearing the man's (it sounded like a man) voice easier than he could see him. The duck gave a nervously purring sound upon his shoulder, also unnerved by the sudden intense light.
"OOF!" Trip. Crash. Bang! "Stupid rocks... Stupid glowing rocks... Wait what?" Syke's face full of dirt looked up and around, pushing himself back up and dusting off. Really, he HAD to be more careful around here...

Dear dear, it sounded as if he had gotten the other person in the beam of his flashlight after all. Hopping off the rock after giving the Ootle another curious glance, Malthus sidled over to the fallen boy, offering his hand in help. What an interesting young man... and was that a duck he had with him?
"So sorry to put the spotlight on you, so to speak... Are you all right?" The man's voice was genuine in its concern; to cause harm to others and not inquire about their health was simply ungentlemanly. "If you did not hear my previous introduction to that lovely creature," he nodded towards the glowing Ootle, "my name is Malthus Rolland DeMarquoix. You may just call me Malthus, however." He grinned slightly. "Now, let's get you on your feet and hear your name, shall we?"

The boy found he was alot closer to the other than he'd thought. Looking up at the rather well-mannered man in the close light, he smiled though he began to wonder what someone like this would be doing in a place like this. This was like where someone could throw away some unfortunate bodies they happened to kill.... Then again, he himself was here as well.
Blinking and scooting back up to his feet with Malthus's, having now added to his collection of dirt and grime upon his clothes, Syke sneezed a little and rubbed at his nose. "Malthus..." he said curiously, testing it out. "Nice to meet you. I'm Sykell-umm.... Syke, yeah. Just Syke." He gave a wide, childish grin "I'm really sorry, did I trip on your... glowy.... rock?"
A small peck at his ear alerted him that Arkadios had somehow stayed on his shoulder. "Oh! And this is Arkee. He likes ears..." Another grin.

"Syke, is it? A pleasure," nodded Malthus, releasing the boy so he could stand on his own two feet again. He had the feeling that Syke was hiding something from him, but everyone had their secrets and so he didn't hold it against him. "And... Arkee? A pleasure to meet you as well," he added, bowing to the duck. Glancing back at the glowing Ootle, Malthus gave a little sigh. "Ah, that's no rock, dear Syke. Nor is it mine, at least not yet. That appears to be an unusual species of Ootle, for I've never seen its ilk before, and I like to do my research before going out hunting." Malthus smiled slightly. "You see, my purpose here is to find a rare creature to begin my collection with. I own a large estate for just that purpose, and it would be a waste to never add anything to it, don't you agree?" Again he took out the knife and played with it idly. "Of course, what I originally came here for was something far more elusive than an Ootle, but one must make do with what one is given... unless you'd like to take the proverbial shot at taming the creature?"

The young boy blinked up at Malthus, his eyes falling to the sheen of the knife when he pulled it out, watching curiously. "A big estate? Coooool." He was rocking back and forth on the tips of his feet, the duck trying desperately to keep it's balance. Vaguely, Arkee was wondering how all the parrots did it...
"What's an Ootle?" he tilted his head, looking back at the strange rock. Malthus had politely offered to let him 'tame' it, but he shook his head. "Thank ya' but unless I can eat it or it will get me out of here, I suppose I don't need it. Besides! Aren't you collecting rare stuff? Shiny, glowy is rare right?"
